In Other Lands (Sarah Rees Brennan)
Character: Luke Sunborn

I love Luke, so very much. I am quite happy with Luke/Elliot, and feel free to include (or ignore) their relationship as you please. (No angsty/sad breakups, and if you have them break up offscreen I'd like them to be on good terms or to have Elliot not mentioned at all.)

I like that Luke is never quite Like the Other Boys and then has to navigate wings and that deep, strange harpy side of himself. The world never quite meets what he thinks it ought to be - pretty common for a young man his age, in a fantastic world or not - but he keeps fighting and pushing through.

If you'd like I'd love more about his relationship with Gregory (Gregory is DELIGHTFUL), his friendship/warrior bonds with Serene, and/or his ups and downs with Elliot.

Pre-canon or during-canon fic ideas: Growing up with his family you don't quite know how to fit in with, his friendship with Selene, learning to fight and kill. (The way Elliot registers, to his horror, that Luke's gotten used to it really stuck with me when I read the book.)

Post-canon: Elliot decides Luke should know what a date is like. Luke has to go to the human world for Reasons. Gregory Sunborn is needed for an important negotiation. Luke starts training the junior fighters and has to deal with many, many, many more questions than he's prepared to answer.

American Vandal
Characters: Peter Maldonado, Sam Ecklund

Sam and Peter control so much of the story, and we see all these tiny glimpses of what they're actually like when they're not 'on.' I'd really like to see more. The show does a great job of showing them learning from the mistakes they make in S1 and S2 while never forgetting that they're a pair of dumbasses who are in over their heads. I kind of half ship them? At any rate, friendship fic or shipfic is fine.

I'd love to see what they do when they're not working on a documentary from hell, pre-S1, post-S2 or in between seasons. Futurefic at college would be interesting - are they going the same place? Will they feel obligated to be in touch or only see each other over vacations? Who are they when they aren't together?

Alternately, if you want to drop them in a fantasy universe or zombie apocalypse, that sounds fun too! Go nuts.


Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard - Rick Riordan

Canon-ish adventures are always welcome. Searches for artifacts! Gods being assholes! Weird family trees! (Feel free to drag in any and all characters who would fit: I love this cast. Blitz and Magnus are cousins and I love that.)

Any kind of hangout fic would be fun, because canon doesn't really have time for that. What's day-to-day business like in the store? What's it like at the Chase Space?

Note: As happened last year, there's a new Magnus Chase book coming out that I haven't read by signups (but will have read by reveals). I am not fussed about your story being jossed or spoilers or anything like that.

Gentlemen Bastards

Jean Tannen, Locke Lamora

I love these two so much. Wary distrust to iron-strong trust is a serious weakness of mine, and Jean being the size of a tree and also super smart and incredibly loyal is catnip, especially combined with Locke's classic conman nature. I am super-intrigued by the canon setting, and I love capers and plans gone wrong (including both those that swing back to right and those that just have to be abandoned). I ship them like crazy but am happy with good friendship or brotherly feelings, too.

Prompts!

I would love more pre-canon scenes with their tentative friendship turning less tentative; anything that fills in between the flashbacks in canon would be delightful.

My favorite moments in the book were when plans started going sideways and Locke had to think fast (sometimes successfully, sometimes less so). I would love to see a pre-canon job start to finish! The high-wire act the Gentlemen Bastards engage in is so fun, I wish we'd gotten to see more things go right.

Jean and Locke consoling each other after the end of Book 1 (brotherly consolation, pre-slash, actual porn, any of it).

Also fun: Sex pollen, weird Eldern artifacts that make the characters confess things they maybe don't want to, any and all explorations of magic in a universe that does have magic but not very much.

Please include the rest of the Bastards and any other characters from the first book if they fit the story; I really loved the cast.

Please note: I've only read the first book in the series. I don't mind minor spoilers, but anything too focused on canon events past that might leave me (if you'll pardon the expression) at sea. I would prefer not to have Sabetha in any stories, because I haven't met her properly yet.

The LEGO Batman Movie

Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson

The most immediate appeal for me is the crazy humor and the family feelings in the movie. (Did I say I liked found families? I DO.) I love that the movie nodded to so many of the movie and comics variations on Alfred, Dick and Bruce. (I would love to have Alfred and Barbara in any of these stories; I NOTP Bruce/Barbara and kid!Dick/Bruce in pretty much every universe.)

Family game night. Batman's a terrible loser, right?

Adventures! Some of the best and most ridiculous characters in the rogues' gallery show up in the movie. Catman! Harley! Catwoman! Solving crimes, battling worthy opponents, making reluctant allies, learning what the heck is up with Condiment King.

Teamups with other characters in the DCU (any version). I would have killed for tiny LEGO Apollo and Midnighter but I also would love to see how any/all members of the Justice League deals with Batman with a sidekick and Bat-friends.

Father-son bonding! Paintball. Cooking lessons. Dick tries to teach Bruce trapeze. Did baby!Bruce play polo or something? Will he try to teach Dick? (Is Dick afraid of horses?)

The Trials of Alfred, World's Most Patient Butler, and His Idiot Charges. What happens when Bruce gets tired of lobster Thermidor?

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard

Alex Fierro, Blitzen, Hearthstone, Magnus Chase

The hardest thing I did this Yuletide was narrow down which characters to ask for. I love the whole cast so, so much, especially Magnus, Blitz, Hearth and Alex. I like how tough and stubborn all four of them are, and how it manifests in very, very different ways.
It's fine to pick just one character or one couple for this fandom. I ship Alex/Magnus and Hearth/Blitz like it's my job. (I would prefer NOT to have Alex/Magnus porn because they are still idiot children in my head. They can do whatever they wanted behind closed doors, I just don't wanna watch. Porn for Blitz and Hearth, though, that is extremely RTMI.) Sam and Amir would be more than welcome in any story, as would Otis and Marvin and pretty much anyone else. (I legit almost nominated Otis and Marvin.)

Prompts!

Blitz made Hearth a tanning bed. A tanning bed, okay. I want The Story of the Tanning Bed. (If you want to write all four characters, Blitz and Hearth telling Magnus and Alex this story, with the inevitable corrections and interruptions, would be a hell of a lot of fun.)

First dates. Double dates. Magnus finally figuring out his confusing mix of emotions about...everything but mostly Alex. I'd love more of Alex and Magnus bonding over being street kids; they haven't had a chance in the first two books. In fact, any kind of hangout fic would be fun, because canon doesn't really have time for that. What's day-to-day business like in the store? Does Alex ever try to teach Magnus pottery? (Is he hopeless? I feel like he's hopeless but I'm open to be proven wrong.)

Please note: I am writing this ahead of the publication of/my reading Book 3, so know in your heart that I know in my heart huge chunks of my headcanons could be Jossed at any time and it doesn't matter. Write to the new canon or stick with Books 1 & 2, it's fine either way. Also, please keep Alex's canon gender intact, thanks.

I realize I forgot to show off my Yuletide fic! It's a really fun gen fic for Stand Still, Stay Silent, a delightful post-apocalyptic webcomic (which is one one HELL of a cliffhanger atm).

I got a lovely gem of a story from Better Call Saul, with a hint of Breaking Bad: The niche.

Unfortunately, I didn't actually manage to write any treats this year, but my recipient really loved her main gift, so Yuletide winning is still mine!

I got an awesome story for Yuletide--an awesome backstory for Wreck-It Ralph, with a lot of cool worldbuilding too.

I wrote three stories for the main archive and two for Madness:

Try, Try Again (Is the Title of Santiago's Sex Tape), Brooklyn Nine-Nine, where I take a perfectly good joke and run it into the ground. (Written before the Eric Garner non-indictment and the tensions exposed between mayor and PD. I'm not going to note it on the fic itself but it...felt a little awkard, unfortunately.)

Continuing my tradition of writing Rh Plus for any sucker who requested it, I wrote Let Me See what Spring Is Like on Jupiter and Mars for daegaer. Vampires in spaaaace!

And I decided to try a fandom I'd never tackled before and wrote Daken fic. Reset is a tale of survival, no matter how reluctant.

For Madness:

Bisou, Bisou is Princess Bride fic, the story of Inigo and Fezzick's first kiss. All the Princess Bride fics this year were good, in main Yuletide and Madness, and I find myself wanting to just roll around in Princess Bride-ness.

A Watch and a Fresh Pair of Socks is Jackrum's thoughts at retirement, from Monstrous Regiment and heavily influenced by learning what the original inspiration Jackrum probably was (the sergeant in All Quiet on the Western Front).


I also signed up for getyourwordsout again, and pledged to write 300,000 words this year. I made it last year...let's see if I can repeat. Maybe this time I'll even keep up with my flist and stuff.

I received Good Intentions, a funny and bittersweet and slightly heart-wrenching Nagi/Mamoru story.

I wrote You Can't Make an Omelet Without Breaking Some Telepaths, about Crawford's work to get Schuldig in place.

Hilariously, Slate then published this article about how violent and terrible that idiom is. Yes, yes it is. That's why it was the perfect title. Hahah.

Then there was Yuletide!

A reminder to read my gift fic, The Ghost of the Grand Hotel, if you know Twin Peaks. Don't let the typo in the summary put you off, it's really, really good.

I wrote three stories:

Due Diligence, a prequel Tiger and Bunny fic about Kotetsu and Tomoe as they wait for Kaede to arrive.

I wrote a fun little RPF AU trifle, To Go and Boldly Raid Someone Else's Cargo, where Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are space pirates, because how could I resist writing that, people.

And then there was the first fic I started, back when letters went up, and the last fic I finished, because the ending! The ending almost killed me. The Not Entirely Accurate Chronicle of John Polidori, Genius Physician and Brilliant Writer, and His Rather Less Distinguished Companions is from the point of view of the physician who accompanied Lord Byron on his rather infamous trip to Geneva, where Byron had a lot of sex and Mary Shelley started Frankenstein.

This was...I think the biggest Yuletide hit I've ever written, guys. And I did it with historical RPF. Go figure. I just got an email that's been podficced, man. IDEK.

I do know I owe my betas big-time, especially edonohana, who helped me end the Poldori fic and assured me that, yes, it was funny. Guess she was right, huh.

I am agnostic about porn: if you want to write it, great! If you don't want to write it, great! I have indicated pairings in my requests where I have them but I like gen too. (In fact, Yuletide is one of my favorite places to get my gen fic.)

Reveals are more than out and I still haven't read all I wanted to. Oh, Yuletide.

I ended up writing a whole bunch.

The Main Event

I had Annakas as my assigned recipient, and we matched on Rh Plus. The request was great, we shared some favorites...and it took me forever to get a concept I liked. The first two didn't feel enough like canon to suit me. I ended up focusing on one thing we both had in common: A love of Masakazu and Konoe's stupid competitions. I asked myself, "Self, what's the dumbest thing you can think of for teenage boys to compete over?"

The answer was arm wrestling, and Too Wise to Woo Peacably was born!

And then I started worrying that the fic wasn't Konoe-centric enough, so I went back to one of my old drafts and realized that I actually had a halfway decent story there. So I wrote Years Go Falling for annakas too.

And then I realized that there were only two people who requested Rh Plus this year, and daegaer didn't have an Rh Plus story, so I wrote First Taste about Michitaka and Kiyoi.

I also wrote Sleep on the Left Side for opalmatrix, because no one else had written a TJ & Amal story yet, and that was a crime.

we make midnight a maquette of the year was for nyargles, because she wanted Billy and Tommy bonding and I needed to write that so much, I can't even.

Treats!

...yeah, I wrote a lot for Yuletide. Felt good, I've been pretty slow/blocked/meh.

Security. is a fake Veridian Dynamics commercial for samalander, from my beloved (and cancelled) Better Off Ted. I miss that show. Less than a ficlet, I guess, but it was fun! I loved picking out the pictures.

As Yami was a Yuletide fandom, possibly for the first time, I wanted to write something in it. All I managed was Craving, for ranalore.

And one of my favorites this year is Despite Appearances, a very short fic I wrote from the trailer for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Yes, I know it's ridiculous! But my recipient, meinterrupted, saw the trailer in the same way I did, and so I wrote in hopes the movie will be as delightful it looks from that tiny glimpse.
